They came from as far as Austin, Lubbock, Dallas, Fort Worth, Fort Hood and many central Texas towns to ride the beautiful rolling hills of Bosque County and the streets of Clifton. One hundred eleven out-of-town bicyclers descended on Clifton on Saturday May 12th for the First Annual Bosque Tour de Norway Bike Rally, delivering a resounding boost to the local economy. For most of these bicyclists, this was their first tour of the area and they reported that the Bosque Tour de Norway will become an annual event on their calendars and they will also bring friends during the coming year for a day trip. Brent Grelle, Chamber of Commerce Board member, was the producer and face of this event, relying on his experiences riding in many rallies in the area.
Starting at the Clifton High school, traveling Ave Q to FM 219, each bicycler chose to ride a 20, 40 or 80 mile route. All routes entered Norse community, 20 milers returned to Clifton on CR 4150. The 40/80 routers followed 4145 past the Old Rock Church and then north on to highway 22 to Meridian, returning to Clifton via Hwy 6. The 80 milers cut back to Cranfills Gap via FM 2136 and onto FM 219 to Clifton. Rest stops were set up every 10 miles on the route to provide shade, seating, food, drinks and bathrooms. In attendance at each rest stop were friendly local folks who answered questions about Bosque County and Clifton, giving directions to, and information about, the local restaurants, shops, hotels and area attractions. Before and after the event the cyclers were seen about town having lunch, enjoying wine tasting, checking out our shops and galleries, getting gas for the return trip, and visiting our local museums. and art center.
